W&M e-mail - anyone?
« on: February 09, 2007, 10:15:24 AM »
I received, this morning, an e-mail from Neil Wixson at W&M. They seemed to be pushing for an answer. Did anyone else receive this e-mail? Honestly, I am VERY interested in W&M. Money becomes the major issue. I love the program, the town, the faculty....They offered me a scholarship for $5k. I appreciate it,but to be honest, I was a little disappointed. Most apps with my #'s were offered the fellowship.

1) How do the rest of you interpret this e-mail.

2) Would it be proper/effective to hardball them back - I would be willing to drop all other apps if they extended an offer of the fellowship in addition to the $5k? I'm still waiting/optimistic concerning Boalt, but...

yes i got this, and i'm not sure hardballing will get you anywhere. their email was sent, i think, because they realize they're the backup for a lot of people. i think they sent it because it's getting closer to the end of their cycle, and they'd like a better idea of who's coming and who isn't so that they can know how many more people to admit... and if you withdraw they may have to waitlist fewer people before accepting them.

i really wouldn't be insulted by it. if it's still a choice for you, i think they have no problem with you keeping it open as an option. i just think they wanted to make clear that if you've made your decision not to attend, that you should send them notification of that.

Yes, and I'm gonna withdraw.

I'm withdrawing as well. Would it be tacky to withdraw by reply to the email?

Thank You

I'm withdrawing as well. Would it be tacky to withdraw by reply to the email?

Thanks. Not tacky, but it's still not good form.

I'm not wd'ing 'til I have my BC aid offer...

Booo! I hope BC gives you a boatload.

I would say it is tacky.  I'll withdrawal by a new email later today.

Thanks!

And if anyone else withdraws, I'll totally thank them too.

I will make my withdrawal contingent upon them giving you my offer  ;)

W&M seems to have forgotten that I applied. I haven't heard a word from them since I got my complete notice. I'll probably withdraw sometime next week.

Same here, actually, but I'll give them till their march deadline to wow me.
