Also, when I went to Chicago, I saw both the Wiener-mobile and the M&Ms-mobile. And I saw the best house Frank Lloyd Wright ever designed (FLW, as I like to call him). Built around a tree. It was freakin' sweet.

I love Frank Lloyd Wright.

The University of Chicago owns the Robie House.

Are there classes in it? If so, my decision is made. :)

No, but you could take classes in the GSB and spend all your time in the lounge that looks over it.

Hmm... OK, I hold all decisions until offers of money are tendered.

Actually, my wireless connection timed out in the middle of my posting, so I had to go back and add the content.

Your wireless connection sucks. So... back to Chicago! Or Game Theory!

<there was a problem here, but I decided it was boring. Let's talk about Chicago.>

OK, here's a pretty easy one:

Suppose you have three boxes, each divided into two halves which you can open separately, each half containing one coin. One contains two gold coins (GG), another two silver coins (SS), and the last one of each (GS). What's the chance of selecting the GS box randomly? 1/3, clearly.

But suppose you select a box and open one side to reveal a gold coin. Then you have either GG or GS, so it seems your chance of selecting GS is 1/2. Same with silver (SS or GS). So your chance of getting GS was actually 1/2, right? No... but why not?

The scenario presupposes that you have already selected a box that contains one gold coin, and adjusting the original chance of picking GS to what you have upon selecting a box with a gold coin fails to take the original odds of selecting a box with a gold coin into account.  Oh well, I don't know.  I'm sure there's something here that I'm not getting.

Have you read The Mysterious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time?
