You need to "carry" it in "furtherance" of the crime, so carry doesn't necessarily indicate just holding it.

As such, it's a statute designed to prevent an already tenuous situation from spiraling out of control.  On the other hand, it does have specific requirements of the parties committing the crimes.

I think the clear intent of that statute was to limit "use" to aiming, shooting, or otherwise intimidating, threatening, or wounding someone with the firearm.

yeah.  i'd say "carrying in furtherance" is like brandishing or waving around. 

Well, I think you either use or carry "during and [or?] in relation to any crime of violence or drug trafficking crime," and possess "in furtherance," but you're still right.
