Using Old LOR's?

Using Old LOR's?

I was wondering if I could use this yrs LOR's (Fall 06) when applying again in Fall 07. How do schools view this? I have heard mixed responses, some say try to get 1-2 updated ones. Any input would be helpful. Thanks.

If you do not have any new academic experiences then I believe it is probably better to use the old ones, as they are from a point in time when the prof. had your work fresh in his/her mind.  You would probably want to get one from a current employer, though.  A few schools even require that.

I sent in older ones because I wanted one from a professor and I've been out of school for a while, and I sent an employer letter from last year because I wanted one from a boss that knew me well.  I've only been at my current job a few months so my boss doesnt know me all that well...

Unfortunately, I have leftover LOR's from last year's dismal cycle.  The reassurance here is refreshing, because I didn't update mine, either.  Although I had an additional year of work experience, my first and third recommenders are my supervisors.  Hopefully I don't get kicked hard for that.
