Calls From Deans
« on: November 07, 2008, 01:32:05 AM »
I've been wondering about this for a while now.  When a Dean calls you notifying you about acceptance to their school, what exactly is the conversation like?  Is it like a recruitment call where they push for a commitment or do they congratulate you, ask about questions and hang up?  If someone who's received such a call can generally go over what was said/discussed, you'd satisfy my curiosity immensely.

Bump.

Come on people, 100 lurks and not a single sentence.  I know these many people on here that have received these calls.

Humor my irrational curiosity.

I have only heard of the famous Mr. Toby Stock calling people to let them in. Since he has already interviewed you, I bet he just asks you if you have any questions.

Them: Hi, is X there?
You: Thats me!
Them: Just calling to congratulate you on your acceptance to Y school!
You: Wow!  Gee Wiz!  Thanks so much!!!
Them: Here is how you get into the admitted students site _______ and our ASW(s) are on Z dates
You: Ok, thanks so much!
Them: Questions?
You: Yes/No
If you have questions they answer them
Them: Congrats again!
You: More graciousness and excitement (fake or real)
End of convo.

Haha, yes. This is how the first call goes.

Now, closer to deposit time (in the spring) expect more harassing calls from deans and student groups (especially if you're a minority).

Ok, cool.

I was just wondering if they start campaigning for their school on the phone, and seeing how I'm applying to close to 20 schools and will disconnectedly consider all my options before committing anywhere, I thought that this could get awkward.

Thanks for humoring me.
