Possibly.  I was under the impression that, in a situation like this, "exclusive" tells the reader that nothing else outside the dichotomy matters, while "mutually exclusive" tells the reader that only one option can be valid and/or true, but not both simultaneously.

Besides, there are dichotomies that aren't mutually exclusive.

I'd thought "dichotomy" implied "mutually exclusive."  I'm often wrong, though.

we also thought this.

for example, in the dichotomoy "halfie" and "not changing name/tar every couple of weeks", the choices are mutually exclusive.

I thought dichotomy just meant two options usually viewed as opposites on a linear spectrum. ???

Ooooh!  I see the problem: I'm thinking math thoughts.

Nevermind.

It gets weird in complex dynamics and topography, not calc.

Sometimes I think that you're a lot smarter than me.

I'm not -- math people just make math much harder than it has to be in this country.

If it makes you feel better, I'm pretty certain I'm getting dumber and dumber with each passing day.  :-\

I was pretty sure that law school did that to me, but now that I'm on break and don't feel any smarter, I'm starting to worry.

Likewise. :-\

God what I would give to be 12 again.

Really?  I felt wicked smart.  I pieced together the Thompson argument all by myself when I was that age.

In retrospect, I probably felt intelligent because I was actually ignorant.

It was still a nice feeling, though. :-\
