Half my profs didn't even speak English...

Seriously. I'm a Spanish major and I can only think of one English-speaking prof I can get to write a LOR. Do you think I could translate a LOR written in Spanish by my prof and then have her send it in? If I weren't so doomed, this would be actually kind of funny.

wow, those of us that have a mother tongue other than english must be piss poor writers and unable to express our thoughts.  i think your attitude dooms you, not your non-english speaking professors

Jesus, what is this liberal BS? I say that they can't speak English because they CAN'T. Not because I'm racist or just assuming they can't. Trust me, I've heard them try. They're from Mexico,Spain, etc. and simply haven't learned the language very well yet. I'm not condemning them for Christ's sake. Well, thanks for the responses anyway. Voy a preguntarles, pero no me parece bien.

Why don't you call some of the schools you're applying to and ask them what they suggest.  They may have people available to translate for them.  I'm sure they won't want *you* to translate it for them, since it's suggested that you waive your right to see your recs.

Yes, liberal BS. When people try turn every discussion of languages or ethnicity into some racism controversy, that's what I call it.

Back on topic.....

There are plenty of reputable translation services out there.  I'm sure that schools would accept a letter in another language if accompanied by a translation from such a service. If in doubt, call the schools to which you are thinking of applying and find out.
