My favorite part of Arnold's speech is how he compared some liberal views to socialism in his native country.

And you know, they all have a common root.  Liberalism as it's used today is not the same liberalism as that espoused by Jefferson and pals.  I think today's conservatives have a much greater claim to the Jeffersonian liberal tradition... today's "liberals" have a lot more in common with Marx than Locke.  I don't oppose their ideas on all fronts, because I feel there's a need for social compassion.  Yet, we need to recognize where those ideas came from, and not deny their origins.
