Man I been out da loop.  Have we talked about Michael Steele yet?  Is this the end of the Republican party or what?  I almost feel sorry for the real die hard social conservative red necks, first a black president, and now this.

 :D :D :D...obama is a redneck...and a brownneck...you not know this?  kenyan/irish...but he is not a die hard social conservative...although he is a rabid churchgoer...

...so things are changing..."troops to pakistan"...get ready...it is happening...

conservatism is alive and well...it is now contained in the democratic party...we call them blue dog democrats...shhhhhh...don't tell anyone... ;)

welcome aboard noobs...

so, while the republican party has already some roots of general conservativism...you may be thinking of classic conservativism...the progressive conservatives are fiscal conservatives and some whom support supply side economics snd some who support keynesian economics are part of a general conservative movement...the social conservative is part of this...however...the issues of the social conservative have taken a back seat to more pressing issues of economics, genocide, tyranny and islamo-fascism....progressive conservatives {fiscal/strong security} and "green" conservatives are the ones who will drive BOTH parties in the future...they already are...

what many fail to see is that democrats have moved sharply to the right...and conservatives are now democrats...an important aspect of the conservative groups are a very "strong military"...welcome "bluedogs".

so...conservativism is alive and well and reinvented, it has unveiled itself as moderate democrats and moderate republicans...

if the pubs want to win an election...all they will do is find a "green conservative" to run in the next four or eight years...

to me...the progressive and "strong military" conservatives are here to stay...and that means...moderate candidates are the key...but it doesn't matter if they are republican or democrat anymore...

many of the conservative ideals of the old republican party are now under the banner of the blue dog democrat...

while much of the republican party has moved to the far right...the democratic party has also moved to the right...fiscally and with regard to "national security"....

in essence...democrats are now considered "conservatives"...

far right wing and far left wings are going to be a hard sell...unless you are from appalachia or san francisco...

catching on yet?

welcome senator kirsten gillibrand of new york!

Alright, folks. Burris should resign. That is all, thx.

Interesting idea, but unlikely to be implemented since it would disproportionately affect the rural poor, among others:

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood tells the AP that the Obama administration is considering taxing drivers based on the number of miles they drive.

“We should look at the vehicular miles program where people are actually clocked on the number of miles that they traveled,” LaHood said in an interview. “What I see this administration doing is this—thinking outside the box on how we fund our infrastructure in America.”

Don't we already do this in the form of gas taxes and toll roads?  Blech.

I don't like the idea of people paying for use of public infrastructure.  We all benefit from having an interstate highway system, public rails, etc.
That's cool how you referenced a case.
