I am less certain of my views on this case. On the one hand, what he did was wrong, and he should be punished for it. On the other hand, this was 20 years ago and he seems to be a good, productive member of society now. Thus, are we better off by withdrawing him from society than leaving him in and imposing some sort of probation and community service? I suppose having him sent to jail gives a sense of vindication to the victim and legitimates the system in the eyes of her and others. I'm just not sure that that is worth it. But it might be. Hmm. Other thoughts?
