Dear Students:

Today the University of California Board of Regents approved our
proposal to establish a school of law at UC Irvine, bringing to
fruition an aspect of the campus's vision that dates back to its
founding in 1965.

Our selection as home to the next public law school in California is
an unparalleled honor. The UCI School of Law will be the first public
law school to open in California in more than 40 years, and it will
become just the second public law school to serve Southern
California's diverse and growing population. With the campus's
reputation for building outstanding programs and the incredible level
of local support for this initiative, I have complete confidence that
the School of Law will become one more compelling example of
excellence at UCI.

A national search for a dean of the School of Law will begin
immediately, and we expect to enroll our first class of students in
fall 2009. I want to especially thank those of you who have played a
role in making this dream a reality, and I invite the rest of you to
join me in supporting this initiative as we move forward.

So much for Chapman becoming the major player...

Wait, is that the school in the OC?

Yeah. The OC is growing pretty rapidly though; I wouldn't be surprised if they were both needed. It'll be interesting to see where UCI starts off, though.

Probably in Irvine.

From the website, it will be initially in current buildings before they construct new ones on the UCI campus.

the true benefit of graduating from uc irvine - you get to be referred as an anteater - the school's somewhat misguided/weird/strange/odd/yet funny nickname...

and i thought the pepperdine waves were not very intimidating in terms of nicknames, but atleast they can drown both slugs and anteaters...
