How big of a deal is a misspelling on an application?
« on: November 14, 2006, 10:28:37 PM »
Not in the personal statement or resume but the application form itself? I just caught one on the hard copy of an app I sent electronically. It is a school I am really high on too.

This is why you don't look at apps after you send them.  It only causes stress  :-X

Seriously, though, if you've got the numbers, it's not like they'll say, "hmm, he made a typo...DING!"

It was more to have a copy for myself of the completed electronic application. I didn't really look over it, it was more glaring at me when I went to collect my copies from the printer. Hey at least for the rest of my life I will never misspell that word again.

It's probably not going to hurt you much, unless you're on the very tipping point of being accepted and the person reading your application is being a bit grumpy.

That being said, if there's one document you are writing this year you don't want typos on, this one would be it ;)

Yor're not alone, I accidently put University of Indiana-Bloomington as a school I was applying too, instead of University of Minnesota, Indiana-Bloomington. Whoops.
