RNC protestors: Yay or Nay
« on: August 30, 2004, 01:10:34 PM »
I think they are kind of cute and good for comic relief (I generally think this of most protestors on either side of an issue).. so I'll go for Yay.

It is funny that the only thing they may accomplish is galvanizing many in the middle of the country against radical liberals.

I think radical liberals, by nature and by default, live in a perpetual state of galvanizing everyone else against them.  They're like ultra-Conservatives without a sense of humor... so they're even less appealing.

I have mixed feelings...

Gives attention to the RNC: Bad
Shows that MANY do not approve of Bush: Good
Clogs up city streets: Bad
Net loss for the city: Bad

But we all already know that many do not approve of Bush, do we not?  So where's the good in that?  What's the new information we're supposed to gain from these protestors?  They're telling us something that's common sense, something we already know... in every election, there will be tons of people against the sitting president and wanting him ousted.  That's a given.

I think that regardless of your view of the Republican party (or the Democratic party, for that matter), anything that would draw attention to either the Democratic platform or Republican platform (in the interest of having informed voters) is good.  So I'd have to disagree that focusing attention on the RNC is a bad thing.  Informed voters (and ideally, this would be every voter) should watch both conventions, as well as any debates, and vote according to principles and conscience.

As for your other two points, I agree.

That's what I hear from my friend who recently went to NYC with his family for a short vacation.  He said the anti-Bush sentiment was everywhere in NYC.

Yeah, I really don't know what they were thinking when they picked NYC...unless they want the protests...but maybe the 9/11 focus of tonight will show why NYC was chosen.

Think how LITTLE coverage the dem convention got compared to this.
Tons of protests means more people watching news...and means more people watching the convention...and possibly more people getting fooled by President Moron's BS

Just my line of thought.

Yay, I love protests.  Back in the old days it was a good way to meet girls.  Ask me about the 88 DNC. ;)
