Did anyone see what happened to the Brazilian?  This has to be one of the worst things I've ever seen in sport.  I feel terrible for him.

well, at least he wasn't stabbed by a crazy lunatic [like that german dude did to monica seles 10 years ago].

I think the authorities should have deducted the amount of time the disruption took him from his overall time. Unfair. What a tragedy for an athlete that has worked so hard. He took it remarkably well. I would furious, and I'd dispute it.

yeah, but it probably took so much out of him mentally and physically that just deducting the time wouldn't help much.  I suppose it could have been a lot worse too (like getting stabbed) so thank god that didn't happen.  And it was amazing to see that he was in such good spirit at the end of the race.

He was really honest though...he was upset by what happened, but he came right out and said congrats to the other medal winners, and acknowledged that he might not have won the gold.  He'd like to think he would have, but can't say for sure.  Which I thought was really awesome of him, despite what happened.  I'm glad they gave him a special sportsmanship award in addition to his bronze.
