They jumped up two spots (in their own rankings)...

They've been trying really hard to edge out Yale's small lead.
Have you ever considered the practical benefits of force lightning at a barbecue?

I see they have finally surpassed UCLA.

I think the Cooley rankings are adorable, especially the way that they move up very conservatively but steadily every year. Do you think they'll make it to their own #1, or will they hold off once they get top 10 status?

Bravo, Cooley, bravo.

I also see that the year has been tough on UVA and NYU.

I actually felt a little guilty after posting this in such a malicious way because they have some really good points about why USNEWS rankings are skewed and narrowly focused, but still, come on!  Don't try to change the game when you're a rookie!  Cooley is not Kobe Bryant.  It's more like...  I don't know, some rookie no one's ever heard of.

Don't feel bad.

I think alternative ranking systems do at least point out that there is no such thing as objective rankings.

Hmm, I'm questioning my recent attachment to UChicago.  It is ranked 34, 5 spots lower than UHouston.  Should I withdraw my application?

The appropriateness of Perpetua would probably depend on the tone of the writing.  When I used it, I (half playfully) thought the extra space made the words sort of resonate.

Yes, you should.  In fact, everyone should.

Except me.

My favorite part is that in the explanation of the rankings, they say that if there is a factor that USNWR uses that is too confusing or they don't like it, they just exclude that factor.  Now that is good scholarship and research.

I love how their overhead blurb says, "Ethics," because, you know, it is sooooo ethical for a school to put out its own ranking system and then highlight itself in the T20.

My problem is believing there is actually a real physical place that is Thomas Cooley Law School. It seems like it was dragged out of the ethereal nightmare hearts of terrified pre-law students as the villain of an insipid morality play. It can't actually occupy space as we know it. It is a reflection of our own insecurity.
