Diversity Essays

Should you write an optional essay discussing your background, etc. if you have nothing really exciting or diverse to offer?  I don't want to look lazy, but at the same time i don't want to belittle the purpose by writing a cheap essay on my contrived diversity? Would it be better to leave it alone?

Thoughts appreciated

Leave that alone if you have a typical American upbringing.  It is not going to help you if you have nothing to say.  It will just leave the adcomm wondering why you even wrote it.
