Early Decision question

Early Decision question
« on: August 23, 2004, 12:01:33 PM »
Could someone answer this for me. If I apply ED to a school, but get sent into the regular applicant pool, am I still under ED binding status? What about if I get put on the waitlist? What about if I get deferred?

Once you are put in the regular applicant pool, your acceptance ceases to be binding.  Since you are no longer gaining any benefits from being admitted early, it would be unreasonable for them to expect you to reject all other applications.  The same applies for waitlist.  Being deferred is the same as being placed in the regular acceptance pool.

I thought being deferred meant you were offered a spot, but for the following year.

Sorry, I thought you meant being deferred from early app to the regular pool by the school.  If you research most schools, they will tell you that they are not going to defer you.  Meaning they will only accept people for the upcoming year. I am not sure if that is a universal thing.
