Honestly, do schools ever read this?

I guess what I am wondering is if LSAC sends the writing portion with your score report or if the schools have to request it? It just seems that with personal statements, diversity statements, optional essays, resumes and everything else, they already have so much to read! And if they do read it, how much weight does it carry? If your LSAT score is average for the school but your writing is exceptional, does it really make a difference?
