Columbia App - question 4 & 5
« on: September 11, 2006, 11:42:25 AM »
As an FYI to others, just had the following email exchange with Columbia, regarding questions 4 & 5 (honors, and activities)

ME:  For questions 4 and 5, which ask the applicant to list honors and
extracurricular activities, is it acceptable to type "Please see
attachment" and attach a sheet with the full list of honors and
extracurriculars?  This will ensure that I can list all of my honors
and activities.

COLUMBIA: That is fine.  You may also want to list them briefly on that page as well.

Was this really something you needed them to clarify?

Some schools prefer you only put information on the paper and not include attachments.  Other schools (I think UVA is an example) are fine if you just put "See Attachment" on the blank space, then put ALL info on the attachment.  Other schools (NYU) are very strict about wanting you to put some information on the space provided, then including an attachment to include activities/honors that cannot fit on the space or to elaborate more.

So yes, I wanted to clarify.  Better to be safe than sorry (and waste $82 on a top choice application, because I filled it out wrong).  I included it here in case it would help someone else with the same question.
