Why can't I see some posts unless they're quoted?

I don't know if this a common or unique problem but I've noticed several times in various threads, that there will be quoted replies, yet the original post being quoted is not visisble to me. Anyone know what's going on?

A lot of people delete ... it seems to be epidemic on this board.
A lot of people quote for the sake of preserving the original posting.

Thats dumb. It seems quite random too, like not something that a poster would want to take back, but just occuring at random times. Well, at least I know its not a problem on my end.  :)

Some people delete because they do not want certain threads reappearing in their unreads.  If you posted in hundreds of threads and they are still active, it can be quite annoying when you check the unreads. ie "Add a Word"...

I have the same problem. At first I thought I was going nuts, but then I figured it was just people deleting, for whatever reason. It would be nice if after a delete the post remained as a 'guest post' or something - just to make reading things make more sense.

i was cloned when he has 32000 posts.  deleting is learned behavior, not inate.  dummy  ;D
