I think you'll get mixed responses to this question.

Some people think that its generally a bad idea to send in additional information. I believe that it is perfectly acceptable to send in as much information as you think is relevant to your application.

Personally I submitted a PS, diversity statement, statement of purpose, list of honors/activities and resume along with each of my applications. However, I would advise that if you do decide to send in additional essays, you limit them to two pages each (1 page for your resume).

Annabel Lee, did you label each essay somehow so that the schools understood that one was your "Personal Statement" and that others were additional, unrequested materials?

Yes, I created headers that identified each statement (with the exception of me resume) such as "Personal Statement", "Statement of Purpose", etc.

In the footer I put my name and SSN.
