Hi, longtime lurker finally decided to join and post. I have a question about %iles and the number of ppl that they correspond to.

I somehow pulled off a 177 on the June 06 LSAT (highest preptest = 172, so go figure) and this is apparently in the 99.8th percentile. It would seem that out of the 27000 or so (estimating based on last year's numbers), maybe 60 people received a score this high. But it appears as though half of this discussion board got this high. I don't mean to imply that anyone is lying here, I am just curious if this number is accurate or if I am missing something.

How is this possible??? Is something wrong with my math?: 27000x(1-.998) = 54.

It's human nature -- I don't consider myself a prestige-whore at all, but my post-involvement went up considerably after the T14 acceptances.  You said yourself that you were a lurker until now (when you have that kick-ass LSAT score.)  Self-selection doesn't begin to cover it.

Congrats, btw!  Regardless of where you fall relative to LSD, you kicked butt relative to the vast majority of the test-takers.

Ya, I think you all have some good points. Definitely some major self-selection. It's still quite impressive and says a lot about the calibre of this forum.

I realize some people are obviously lying but I would tend to believe most people who are regular posters.

Obviously it's way too easy to lie about your score, so i would not be surprised that a few people lied about theirs to get some attention/respect.
