If you're headed to Newark this August, please get in touch if you'd like to discuss professors, housing, bullet-proof vests ;-), etc.

Where are you living?

I'm in NJ and my partner just graduated from Rutgers, so I can make some suggestions.

And you don't need bullet proof vests, geesh.

Dawn French - I applied for dorm housing at University Square, but was placed in Talbott. Currently, I'm on the University Square waiting list, and considering off-campus housing. What's your situation?

ButchCJG - Trying to get housing in University Square. Because I've been swept into Talbott - I'm considering living off-campus.

Thanks for offering up some pointers -- I plan on driving around Newark to get a feel for the area. I have no idea how much apartments rent for near the school. Is stuff available near the campus at decent prices?

As far as the bullet-proof vests, that was a jab at the sheltered kiddes that write so lovingly about Newark at night. At present, I live in Harlem -- I have zero fear of Newark.

Thanks for replying!!

Consider looking for apts in Montclair.  Nice place, close to Newark, and you can find a nice apt for cheap.  You'd better have cash if you wanna live in Hoboken.
