Come on - you've had a week to recuperate!  Only 14 months until 1L!!

...I have a friend who is working as a patent agent right now.  I have no idea how you pass that exam without any background in law (he was a science nerd like me).

I'm also the science type.  The exam questions don't seem so difficult, though; they don't seem to require real knowledge of the law.  Just knowledge of the Patent rules.

What's the work like as a patent agent?  I had never considered that, but I guess it makes sense - just pass the test and you are one.

I have thought about starting studying for the bar as soon as I get my first acceptance letter.

I have issues.

PennyLane invented sweet. She has the patent on it. I tried to act sweet one time and she sued me.

I'm saving that pleasure for next summer. I spoke with someone who took it after her 1L and she said that nothing on the exam requires going to law school and that it's very smart to take it before 1L.
All you need is ignorance and confidence; then success is sure.

I have started studying - I've got a ton of review materials, and once I quit my job and get the move over (this weekend) and get into my new house next week, I"m going to be hitting it hard core for the rest of the summer, with the goal of taking it mid-August.  Hopefully six weeks will be enough time to get up to speed on it all.

So to be a patent lawyer, you don't need to go to law school...you need to pass a test and that's all???

No, you can be a patent agent without going to law school.  To be a patent attorney, you have to pass both the patent bar and the regular bar.

It has something to do with being able to prosecute patents or not - I believe it basically means that an attorney is the only person who can argue a claim in court, but other than that pretty much anything an attorney can do can be done by an agent.

But as I understand it, billing rates for patent attorneys >>> billing rates for patent agents.  :)

Thanks for all your help.  Where can I get the books to study for the patent bar, and is there an official website to register for this exam?
