Yeah, and Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and their ilk have directed large amounts of resources in trying to get Postcards from Buster, the Tele-Tubbies, and similar menaces to our moral fabric banned from the airwaves.  What's you point?

No nation, religion, ethnicity, or culture--hell, no person--has a monopoly on intolerance or stupidity, to the great misfortune of all.

yes they have.  but they didn't take it off of public television...

Would you care to explain how the mere accident that our own fundamentalists have not yet been (completely) successful in achieving their goals makes any difference?  The fact is, there are millions of people in this country in agreement with James Dobson, the Parents' Television Council, etc., who have goals similar to those in Turkey who want to keep Piglet off the air.  Both groups wish the question of what is allowed on the public airwaves to be determined, in large part, by religious considerations.  The fact that millions of people in Turkey have fortuitously managed to achieve their goals hardly shows that their goals are exceptional.  Millions of people here wish they could do what is in principle the exact same thing, and they have been successful in some cases (most recently, with The Book of Daniel).

Perhaps the Colbert Report has been a little too successful in Turkey?
