i found this online this week and its an extremley exhaustive list of school loans, terms etc. At the very bottom they tell you which lenders( other than the ones specifially for school expenses, which mainly need to be certified by the school) can be used for other expenses (laptop, study abroad) and DO NOT need to be certified by the school. hope this helps some people like myself, who need $$ outside of the fin. aid award to pay off thier credit card debt, or car payments etc.
