Joint Degree Programs--- do you have to apply up front?
« on: May 18, 2006, 10:04:37 AM »
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've been in a classes fog (4.0 senior year, senior thesis, overloaded both semesters)...

I'm a History/poli sci major, and I'm interested in both law and history, and to a lesser extent Poli Sci.

I'm not at all sure that I want to do a dual degree, or that I could, but I'm at least intrigued... I know Penn for instance has a JD/PhD in history program.

My question is, does anyone know if one has to apply for both simultaneously? Does one have to send in two apps? Or can you try to get into that sort of program during or immediately after 1L?

It all depends on the school and the specic program that you're interested in.  Some require two apps, some you just check a box on the ls app, some you apply for during 1L.  They also differ on whether or not you have to take the GREs.  Your best best is to research the requirements for the specific schools that you're interested in.  Good luck!
