Duke just asked me about Summer Start, June 1st
« on: May 17, 2006, 07:49:38 PM »
Got an e-mail from Bill Hoye asking if I'd be interested. He even said they still have scholarship money available. Decision by tomorrow afternoon. I was planning on USC, now this. If I get accepted, I start in two weeks. I'm in LA. My girlfriend is here. I have no money. My car is in pieces. I'd have no place to live in NC. I've been through NC once. I'm confused, excited and feel like I'm gonna throw up.

OMFG.

Congrats! Are you going to go? I'm still on the WL with probably no hopes of getting off and I don't know if I could commit to going in 2 weeks.

You'd be surprised how much you can do in a short time.. Usually when people plan moves they procrastinate and overall do it slowly.. If you had to do it in two weeks I think it is definitly possible.. One weekend in NC is all it takes to get an apartment and get furniture and whatnot..

This Duke letter is pretty wild.  2 weeks?  Nice planning on their part.  Anyway, is anyone else considering it?

No, not everyone on the waitlist got the email. I think it's for the people they are actually going to call and offer a spot to.  :'(

I would try some exercises to calm yourself down for at least a few minutes so you can make a decision.  Like write down on a piece of a paper for a few minutes what you're feeling, then throw it away.  See if something like that helps.  I think this is a great oppertunity.  I found my summer start really helpful, plus you're getting in to a T14 outside of LA, just like you wanted.  Like someone else said, two weeks is a lot of time.  But make sure you try to calm down a bit before making any sort of decision.
