so i met 2 asian girls this weekend. one corean and the other chinese, both adopted. None of them have ever dated an asian guy. One of them said that her white brother told her to never bring an asian guy home. I was really taken aback by this.....racism from her own family! I sensed a lot of self-hatred in her as well.
what a xenophobe. at least she doesn't seem to mind.
What the heck is with this corean crap? It's like people who want to be called womyn.
I agree it's somewhat ridiculous in its usage today. After all, it's internationally recognized as Korean with a "K." However, womyn and Corean are not comparable analogies.
Once upon a time, the romanization was, in fact, "Corea." However, during the Japanese occupation, Japan didn't like the idea of Corea being ahead of them in anything, like in the alphabet. They changed the romanization to be spelled with a "K" so that Korea would follow after Japan.
Whereas, the correct spelling of women has always been with an "e." There has never been a group that robbed women of their label and replaced it with something the group felt to be less substantial. Feminists have freely chosen to remove the "man" and "men" out of their descriptor.
just food for thought
