Most Challenging Games?
« on: May 08, 2006, 05:38:32 AM »
I'm curious to hear which games people are finding most challenging (or vicious, or brutal, or fun, depending on your perspective...) on the practice tests.  It might give those who are studying us some good suggestions on which games to focus on.

I'll start it off with one that gave me fits this weekend - Dec 2001, #36: the third game, with the six people sitting on the bus.  The rules just didn't click with me.

Somebody last week mentioned the male and female snakes and iguanas game as another tough one.  Any others?

October 2002 (#38) the last game about the musical pieces and the instruments with which they are performed. You would think that with only two rules the game would be easy. I had 13 minutes left going into the game and I thought I'd be golden - not only did I use the entire 13 minutes but I also got 3 of the questions wrong - that hasn't happened to me on any preptests in about 2 months. I sure hope they don't throw in one like that on the June test.

Here are my votes for good, challenging games, all for different reasons:
PT 38, gm. 4: musical pieces and instruments
PT 39, gm. 2: Capital Enterprises
PT 41, gm. 4: Fiona & friends' picnic
PT 25, gm. 2: Tourists, guides & languages
PT 27, gm. 2: Reptile house
PT 23, gm. 3: Research teams
PT 23, gm. 2: Interviewing & hiring
PT 36, gm. 3: Bus seats
PT 6, gm. 4: Island bridges
PT 40, gm. 3: Zephyr Airlines
PT 15, gm. 2: Zendu's airspace
PT 12, gm. 4: Science class flasks
PT 39, gm. 4: Barbara's aquarium

(The birds in the forest game is PT 33, gm. 2... but Barb's aquarium is similar but tougher!)

I thought birds was easy.  I think that maybe that game in which they are interviewing and hiring some of the interviewed applicants for a company.

I thought that Barb's aquarium was super easy! You must do contrapositive statements when dealing with conditional reasoning type games...once you did those, the game was easy...but not so with those STUPID BIRDS!!!!

Vera :)

Treat the birds just like you're treating Barb's fish, with just one minor substitution: IN the forest becomes SELECTED; OUT of the forest becomes NOT SELECTED... then it's a regular 'ole Formal Logic selection game, practically identical to Barb and her fish!

The new and used CD one, the dorm to student assignment one, the doctor to town assignment one, and the ski chalet mapping game.  Oh, and all of the games in the Kaplan 180 book just blow.

I just did PT 12, game #4.  No idea.  Spent ten minutes getting two questions right...

It usually takes me 10 to 13 minutes, no matter what the game, but for some reason I breezed through the interviewed/hired game, PT 23, 2nd. On the other hand, the student to dorm room assignments, I didn't even try to finished; I was just baffled. PT 21, 1st.

I don't remember which test # it was from...but there is a game with birds in a forest...to me that one was the WORST! It was based on ten or so conditional rules and their contrapositive rules...connecting them, etc. I want to say that it was June 2000?

Vera :)

Test 33, I believe. I love that game. Very easy if you represent the rules correctly.
