I don't practice much restraint when it comes to technology so I ordered my well equipped Dell M1210 yesterday. I didn't get the built in camera although I thought it would have been cool in class.

Woohoo!  I just ordered my laptop!  Newegg has sick deals on the Toshiba R200 series.

Link?

How much was it?

Plus, since it's newegg, it came today.   :D

Let us know how it is. I spent some time playing with one at CompUSA not too long ago and came amy impressed. The thing does not feel one bit hollow in construction like the dozens of HPs, Sonys and Compaqs out there. It kind of reminded me of an expensive watch, if that makes any sense at all.

The only thing I'd be hesitant about is the 4200RPM hard drive, otherwise looks solid.

It's here and one person mistook it for a frisbee.

At 2.84lbs, it's practically as light as a frisbee.  I can't decide if I want it.  :-[  The Dell Deal Days aren't so hot and none of their notebooks are even under 3lbs, especially after I stick on the extended battery.

Mugatu, have you had a chance to see if the battery lasts 4+ hours?

Question for anyone that knows.

I have read the recommendations that we have XP Pro. I didn't change that configuration of my computer when we bought it because I hadn't read all of this thread yet. I was hoping actually since I have the upgrade CD that I used on my desktop I might be able to upgrade xp media center edition to xp pro with that CD. Anyone know if this should work even though I have already used it on one computer?

Upgrading is easy.  I spent $90 on an 80 GB 5400 RPM drive. It took two seconds to swap out, and then maybe an hour to load the software.

It would upgrade, but you wouldn't be able to activate it w/ Microsoft.

10 days of Deals, Dell is purportedly flushing out alot of supplier inventory in preperation for the new Core 2 Duo processors

Whatever the validity to this, the deals they have had aren't bad.

Nell,

Look on the C drive of your upgraded pc desktop to see if you have a folder called I386. If so open that forlder and look for a file called "unattend.txt".  Open this file in notepad and look for the section:

[userData]
ProductKey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
FullName:"xxxxxx"
OrgName:"XXXXXX"
ComputerName=*

Use this product key when prompted during the upgrade.  Should have full functionality of XP Pro without having to activate again if the upgrade CD works on your laptop.

If you do have the I386 folder and cant find the unattend.txt then do a Google search for Magic Jellybean.

Hope this helps.
