What's the best school you were admitted to?
« on: April 21, 2006, 09:36:02 AM »
It frequently seems that people here get into better schools than one would expect.  I am asking everyone to click the buttom that represents the best school (rankings wise) that you got into this cycle.

We have lots of admits to the top schools in the "definitely decided" thread, but I am wondering if those going to top schools simply post more than the rest of the users of this forum.

Let's find out.

Where does Tier 1 and end and Tier 2 begin?

Most people say after 50, but I'm not convinced by that really.  I think first tier is more like top 30 or so.

OP, please add a slot for Princeton on there, I want those T14ers to cringe with jealousy at me and my selected brethren.

I am talking about the USNWR rankings, so the category "rest of tier one" refers to schools ranked 15-50.

USNWR doesn't break it up into 1-50, 51-100.  Just top 100, then tier 3.  I know its assumed they imply to break it into two tiers, but because they don't, I also presume they are unclear about where to divide it or something.

For the purposes of this poll, 51-100 are Tier 2.  I am not going to debate the utility of the description.  Sometimes I feel like 80% of what's posted here has to be disagreed with or others aren't happy.  Ug.

*frustrated sigh*

I got waitlisted at two 2Ts, but one of them got knocked down to TTT. I am attending a TTT, that is now Cooley-esque(4T), though it is usually 4T. I think it should be back up to TTT, it usually is.

That's new as of last year's rankings--USNWR second tier used to be 50-100, and given that they still start third tier at 100, the common understanding is basically that second tier is second tier regardless of whether they call it "second tier" or "51-100."

Did it actually publish 1st and 2nd tier divisions?

I know what the common understanding is.
