when to apply for private loans?
« on: April 18, 2006, 10:37:57 PM »
I'll likely be attending UNC next year, but they haven't sent me my financial aid award letter yet?  Do I wait before I get that to apply for private loans?  Which loans should I be looking at?

i think ppl usually wait until after the award letter (b/c it'll let you know how much stafford/perkins you get, and how much private you'll need).  i know the school i'm going to isn't mailing them until june, so i'll prob start looking right after.  also, there's usually info included on lenders that the schools have relationships with.

in addition to private loans, there's grad plus loans which is another federal loan with no cap on the amount -- there's ton of grad plus info on this board that you can check out

I lost $18K in scholarships because I didn't realize when I had to send the letter in.  An expensive lesson.  You think reading things carefully is important in law school?
