Hi.  I have been lurking around on this site for a few months now reading what ya'll have been writing.  I haven't contributed yet, mostly because I only applied to one school and haven't had a lot to contribute.

I post today with a question that I would like your opinions on....

What's the point of a waitlist?  From what I have read some schools only let in about 10 people off the waitlist each year (and sometimes have 100 on it).  Why not only put 20 people on it and let the other 80 people know that they are rejected straight out?  If placed on a waitlist, and continued interest is expressed, what are one's chances of actually getting in? (I am sure it varies from school to school... I personally applied to University of Arizona)

2nd Q= do you think the schools take the time after final transcripts have been released to re-rank the waitlist based on Spring grades?

I suppose all we can do is speculate, but if anyone has any inside info, please please share it!
