Ah, I wish things were so simple... I have a funny application because of my LSAT/GPA split and a very strange undergraduate history.  And CUNY is iconoclastic, and I assume my test score will mean less there than at some other schools that are more rankings-oriented.  But thanks for the encouragement!  I have definitely been confused about why it's taken so long for me to hear.

But yeah, you're right...CUNY is a whole lot less impressed with high LSAT's than other schools are.  Do you have a lot of "stuff" on your resume to show a commitment to public interest?

These are both good questions.

Would CUNY end up on top?  I'm not sure.  I just received a public interest scholarship at another school which might make the easier commute, summer stipends, health insurance, library hours and holdings, etc. hard to turn down.  If you had asked me a week ago, I would have said yes.  I'd really like to be part of a strong public interest community.  And all the cute queers don't hurt. 

My resume should definitely indicate my commitment to public interest law: I have worked in the non-profit sector for the last six or so years, the last three in the field of law I plan to pursue (criminal defense/habeas); I do a bit of community service stuff outside of my job; and I started active, progressive student organizations (one queer, one race-/class-based) at each of the schools I attended.  My recs should also corroborate both my politics and my dedication to public interest work.  So I don't think this is the hangup.  I'm afraid my academic record is just that pitiful.  And the LSAT score that has allowed me to overcome it at a couple of other schools has a (rightfully) diminished weight in CUNY's calculations.

In any case, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I finally secured an apartment in Queens- LIC to be exact (36th ave at 29th st). Very excited and relieved. I got to explore LIC and Astoria this weekend, and I like what I see. I'm moving down on June 1st.

Any new mail from CUNY lately? My academic calendar never came, but I got something from a student org the other day so obviously they have my correct info.

I got my award letter, as well as some information on the "Third World Orientation" last week. I'm changing addresses in a week, and I hope I don't have the same mail problems that you are having!

Say, we should try to plan some sort of LSD CUNY gathering (all 3 or 4 of us!) during June or July. Hopefully if we create some posts, people will respond.

I didnt get my award letter, instead I got a form telling me I forgot to send in a copy of my SS# card. So, I sent that in last week and hopefully will get the award letter soon!
