The title of this thread is utterly ridiculous.  The jerks on the lacrosse team hired a stripper (two, actually), who happened to be a Central student.  Framing the issue as "Duke lacrosse players rape Central student" (even though it's look less and less like that's what happened, but we'll assume it for the sake of argument) would be appropriate if they went over to Central, nabbed some student, and then raped her.  That's not what happened.  They hired a stripper (with a criminal record and who apparently showed up completely inebriated).

Why not frame the issue as "Duke lacrosse players accused of raping ex-con"?  That's just as accurate as referring to her as a "NCCU student", and probably more relevant.

Whenever I see the word "ridiculous" being used in the first sentence, I know that some faulty reasoning is just around the corner.

There are many ways to frame this story. None of them are "ridiculous". The choices on how to frame it just depend on who you are, that's all.

A lot of people have suggested that the DA is just pushing forward because it is an election year. I have the feeling the dude is screwed no matter what he does.

Well, I disagree.  I think it is ridiculous.  The fact that she is a Central student is completely irrelevant to the issue at hand.

Other ways that this could be framed that are plainly ridiculous:

Lacrosse players accused of raping Earthling.
Lacrosse players accused of raping North Carolinian.
Lacrosse players accused of raping Durham resident.
Lacrosse players accused of raping high school graduate.
Lacrosse players accused of raping woman who once had overdue book from public library.

All equally true (ok, I'm guessing about the library book), all equally irrelevant.  The fact is, the OP deliberately chose the thread title to reframe the issue in a way more sympathetic to the accuser, and I'm calling BS on that.
