E-mail vs. Snail Mail Notification
« on: April 06, 2006, 10:54:05 AM »
The one acceptance notice I received was via e-mail. The one waitlist notice I received was via snail mail. Is this the convention? Acceptees are notified by e-mail first?

The conventions seem to be de-stabilized at the moment. Reading the various threads, I see a whole variety of different situations, including phone calls.

For me, this has been the case:

1 rejection via snailmail
2 acceptances via email
2 waitlists via email
1 waitlist via snailmail

But I know that some people have gotten acceptances over the phone.

So is it safe to assume that you won't find out about an acceptance first by snail mail?

I actually received three acceptances via snail mail, though that was a bit earlier in the cycle.  Just because I've given up hope, certainly doesn't mean you should as well.

I don't think it's safe to assume anything about this crazy process, and don't let anyone on this board tell you different!

All 3 acceptances by snail mail, as well as rejections and waitlists.

I received an acceptance by snail mail and then received an email from the school the following week.

I've gotten two email acceptances (NU, which only does it via email these days) and Wash U., the others were snail mail, but again they were earlier in the cycle. None of my rejections were via email though.
