Whew. This makes being a young lawyer sound like hell. Clearly, his proposal will never happen, but it makes some sense. I do agree that our society suffers from a surplus of lawyers and lawyering. Still, this is a much better problem to have than living in a society that suffers from too few lawyers and lawyering.

thanks for the post, bonkers- interesting stuff.  $145,000 a year starting sounds really ridiculous, especially when you consider that it is some of the most mundane work imaginable.  I would rather take 70 or 80 a year and have real experience and a more flexible schedule- honestly, this is a STARTING salary.  STARTING, as in "you will make more as you get older."  I want a family and a vacation ro two every year, not 2200 billable hours- that correpsonds to what, like 80 hours a week?  ridiculous
