Where should I go?

Where should I go?

All scholarship amounts are three-year total (mostly distributed equally, but CLS and NYU are weird)

Have a preference for being in Boston, but didn't get into Harvard.  Want to go into BIGLAW, but I'm not quite a gunner.  My prestige/ranking whoredom is limited.  Don't want too much debt.

Thoughts?

If you want Boston biglaw and not too much debt then Cornell is the way to go. When I went up there it definitely seemed national but it was especially strong in the Northeast. Lots of Boston/NYC/Philly people.

CLS will definitely give you the best shot at BIGLAW.  Your prospects at CLS will be better at any equivalent class ranking compared to Cornell.  I don't see this as much of a contest, and Cornell is only a distant second with none of the others really factoring in.  30K (and some CoL differences) is definitely worth CLS over Cornell.

I'd agree with you if the OP were interested in NYC biglaw, but I doubt it makes as much of a difference in Boston. The most prominent firm there is Ropes & Gray. There are 21 CLS grads there and 17 Cornell ones. Considering the difference in the size of the schools and the fact that most CLS grads choose to stay in NYC while Cornell is more dispersed, I'd say they're about even.

Columbia appears to be the clear winner here.  It’s the optimal choice given your two criteria.

I'm leaning towards Columbia now... but still taking votes!
