When do you start trying to secure private financing?  Do you need to know which school you are attending before you attempt to borrow?

I'm not sure either, but until the school sends you a final financial aid award letter with what Pell, subsidized, and unsubsized Stafford loans you get, I don't think you can do much.  My guess is June.  Anyone else more knowledgible please feel free to chime in.

I think you hear in May/June from the school, in terms of federal aid.  I think private loans come later, but I'd check with the school to make sure

I was told by the financial aid office at my school that I should be applying for private loans in June.
