Maryland...whaaaat???

so i got dinged at Maryland a couple days ago.  considering this was my "last resort" school and i'm in at much better places, i'm not worried...just confused. 

-163/3.73 (from a top 30 National University w/ grade deflation)
-tons of extra-curriculars and leadership, previous work experience at a law firm, etc.
-Maryland resident

anyone know what the deal is there this year or heard of similar happenings?

I'm also waiting on them and this doesn't make me feel good at all


But my though is that maybe they've reached their in-state quota/goal and they've already had that # of people send in their deposits so there is no room left for in-state (which brings in less money). I could be wrong, but that might be what's going on here.

They ouright rejected me, and a friend was waitlisted while she got into many better places.  Not sure who they think they are up in Bmore, but maybe they're trying to move up into the top 35 next year?

an update for anyone that may care...

i sent an email to the person who signed my rejection letter asking why i was rejected.  i explicitly stated that "i am not asking for my application to be re-reviewed at this time."  however, a few weeks later i received a letter saying that my application had been placed on hold (not mentioning my previous rejection).  and today i received a call asking me if i was still interested...which made it seem like that if i said yes i would be admitted.  yeah, i said no...
