Admissions Results Weirdness
« on: March 26, 2006, 06:19:45 PM »
Anyone else have this experience: I got outright rejected from a Tier 2 school that is significantly lower ranked than schools I've been waitlisted at, put on hold, or accepted at with $. What up with that? I applied roughly the same amount of time before the admission deadlines at each of these schools.

In many instances it's called yield protection...they don't think you'll go so they won't waste an admission on you.  USNWR punishes schools in the ranking system for admitting students that don't attend.

I have weird results that can't be yield protection: in at UVa with $$, but waitlisted at GULC and Northwestern. Even weirder is that I expect a reject from William and Mary this week . . .
