plenty of lefties are for the draft. noam chomsky is one well-known example.

personally, i'm more in favor of an economic draft: if you're from a family that makes more than $100,000 a year (from all income sources combined), you should have to serve.
that way the people benefitting from the system are the ones who have to risk their lives for it.

That would be treating the symptom, though. And anyway, it's not like the children of the rich are going to be enlisted troops - they'd be officers more likely than not.
