I posted this in another thread, but The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is worth reading - a tad predictable in parts, but very moving.  It's a story about Afghanistan and Afghani immigrants to America.

Currently reading Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail '72.

Really hard to put down so far, he was amazing at storytelling.
