Your tar is really cool with the flames, but it makes me sad to know that he was a friend of yours that died  :( Sooo the first thing that now pop's into my head is sadness.

No reason to feel sad. I wouldn't consider him a friend, just someone I worked with and talked with a couple times. Plus, he died doing what he enjoyed, as stupid as it was. He got his fifteen minutes. Too bad he wasn't here to enjoy it.

For the tar above: that's kind of creepy--what is it?

The appropriateness of Perpetua would probably depend on the tone of the writing.  When I used it, I (half playfully) thought the extra space made the words sort of resonate.
