got dung today, after applying with fee waiver, listing lots of extracurriculars and writing an essay (don't remember which).

granted, my LSAT is at the median and my GPA is below median. i still attribute it to having applied right near the deadline.

URM with median GPA and just under the 25% for LSAT, I'm thinking it's gotta be the lack of the "Why Michigan?" essay for me.  My application's been doing pretty well elsewhere - scored a waitlist at Columbia, for whatever that says - so I'm thinking, perhaps especially with the merit fee waiver crowd, they're wanting to see proof of actual interest in the school.  Fact is, I didn't have said interest, though I would have considered them had I gotten in, so I'm not hurting too  bad.  Sorry folks, better luck elsewhere!

I got a merit-based waiver and was offered the waitlist.  I didn't apply until early January, so I am not sure how that might have affected my chances.  The same thing happened at Penn under the same circumstances.  Anyway, I turned down both waitlist offers.

Edit: I also wrote all the optional essays.
