Wedding Song Musts and Must-Nots
« on: February 26, 2006, 10:53:22 PM »
Hey folks,

I'm starting to work on a list of songs for the DJ at my wedding. I could leave it in their capable hands, but my Type-A personality demands that I provide at least four hours worth of tunes sure to pack the dancefloor for all occasions.

With that in mind, I need some suggestions for the following categories that will be appropriate for all ages without the presence of cheese. Feel free to also provide songs that should NOT be played.

1) Slow Songs
2) Dance Songs
3) Get Down and Get Funky Songs (e.g., Jungle Boogie)

Discuss.

Who dat?

For a slow song I Recommend: Lady In Red (sappy, but ya gotta love it)
For a fast song: Play that funky music (mmm...yeah...)
and ya gotta get down to Shout (ok, I've seen wedding crashers one to many times)

It's not a party until someone plays "Play that funky music".

Nuke, are you engaged?  Or is this just a pre-emptive strike?

Anyways, I will refer you to 70's soul, there are many many great artists out there.  Not telling you my personal fav though, holding out that it will one day be my wedding song.   ;D

Yuppers, six months to go and the bank account is already getting fairly depleted. FAFSA should have a separate box for newlyweds. ;)

Stevie Wonder's "Jungle Fever" has to get a spin.  As does "Blame it on the Boogie", one of many MJ classics.
Pish, J only wants to waste YOUR time.  Get wise.

I like the slow songs.

I like Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton.
When you have somebody dying because they are poor and black or poor and white or because of whatever they are ... that erases everything that's great about this country.

Whatever you do, don't play "At Last."  Everyone is doing it.  Stand out!

Must Haves for weddings:

Slow- "Making Memories of Us"-Keith Urban.

This was my wedding song and the song that plays during the menu screen of the DVD.  Not as country as you might think.

Dance song- Anything Earth, Wind and Fire but specifically September

One cannot play 70s music without the greatest band of the 70s, EWF!

Must Not Haves:

Chicken Dance
Electric Slide
Macarena

I slipped the DJ an extra $50 to keep these three monstrosities from contaminating my wedding day.

Must:  From This Moment (by Shania Twain, and uh, some other guy)
Must not:  Rocket Queen (G n'R) - Great song, but bride's parents probably won't appreciate it so much
