Interesting thread. I've included phrases, too.

-"clocked on the head"
-pomegranate
-vagabond
-insecticide
-"feminine hygiene products" (seriously)
-prostitutes
-foot binding
-Chinatown bus

I DESPERATELY want to read this PS now

Brief list of no-so-common words:

knave
nadir
piqued
circumspection

My style is rather straight-forward compared to many.

 ;)

i want to know how you used the word 'knave'  :D

I had the word "flamboyantly" in a earlier draft, which is just a word one doesn't get to use much

Here are some key phrases:

"Id been the knave twisting my own words and emotions for years:  I felt like a fool."  Sentence is a tie-in from a key word in Kipling's "If" which opens my PS.

"This experience more than any other piqued my interest in the law:  perhaps I could avail the plight of individuals experiencing what Id suffered."

"I now treat Triumph and Disaster with circumspection, and one day at a time, I build the things I give my life to with worn out tools."  T and D are tie-ins w/ the Kipling piece.  Opening sentence to my conclusion.

 ;)

"Dogmatism" -- referring to someone else's practices, not my own.  :D

Try to piece the story together from the list.  Perhaps a knave was troubled by excessive cicumspection.  Upon reaching an emotional nadir, our knave's interest was piqued by earnings potential upon graduation

And you were just oh-so-close.  See above!

I see that we're not talking about *truly* unusual words/phrases but more about uncommon ones in everyday usage. Some more from mine, then:

ontological
problematized
foregrounded
'promiscuous contact'

'unnatural, and frightening, and absurd'

'unnatural, and frightening, and absurd'

That extra "and" is driving me crazy.  :P

I like the second "and," it has a very literary feel to it (and I'm just now reminded that I had an English teacher who hated the word "very").
