Jeffjoe, I understand your inbuilt mistrust of politics.  Most of my relatives think the same way.  My personal experiences have been to the contrary, I've found that they're 75% men and women of integrity and 25% dirtbags, and that the dirtbags don't control the dialogue.

Groups of people can do dirtbag things collectively without being dirtbags themselves.
