You got deferred because they knew you were YLS material and they might not get you. I'm probably getting deferred, too, since we have gotten the same treatment from H all along (no call, no love, etc.) I haven't gotten the letter yet, though.

I just checked out LSN from last year.

48 applicants were accepted to Yale out of roughly 400 applicants.  Exactly three ALSO got into Stanford but got dinged or deferred by Harvard.  None of them ended up getting in.  Also, none of them are similar to me:

161/3.5 URM
170/3.9 Non-URM
168/3.72 Ivy

Wouldn't it be awesome if Harvard just decided to have a class of 200 people this year, so as to reclaim the number one spot?

but i can't imagine they'd forego the tuition revenue.  ;)

whatever, H clearly needs to get back on top of their game... been a few too many fumbles lately.
